My Story

My grandmother, Mam’ma, taught me from a very young age that whatever you bake should look as wonderful as it tastes, and that there was nothing more fun than throwing a party. Growing up in rural West Texas, 60 miles from the closest movie theater, shopping mall, or Target, you had to turn to creativity for entertainment, and that’s just what my Mam’ma did. She gardened, sewed, painted, and… decorated cakes. She believed there was nothing more fun than throwing a party and was always the one that the small community looked to for cakes for every occasion, from birthdays, to baby showers, and even weddings. My birthday dinners at her house always included an arrangement of yellow roses from her garden, and matching yellow roses on my cake. I loved it. When I was around 10 years old, she started teaching me some simple decorating techniques, and we would practice on birthday cakes for my parents. It was an immediate source of joy for me! Since then, I’ve practiced practiced practiced and experimented with recipe after recipe, and have begun growing my stress-relief hobby into something more. My approach is simple: bake from scratch with quality ingredients, create a design that will appeal directly to the person it’s for (like my yellow roses), and help bring the community together, one bite at a time!
